Bangkok (mis)Adventure Day 5

'fortune favours the brave'

Or so we thought, as with no further updates from last night, cause BBC decided that the protest didn't merit more than random 1 minute highlights, and cause we couldn't understand Thai, we decided to travel to the airport to check if we could fly. Les also phoned the hotel reception in the morning and we were told that we could give it a try (and yes, I do realize how stupid this sounds in retrospect). So off we went.

The cab driver was only too happy to take us. ("400 BAHTTT??!! NO METERRRR!!")

We only realized how bad things actually were when we saw that the protesters had barricaded the expressway. And we were made to alight on the highway and walk for nearly an hour to the airport...

Only be greeted by an abandoned airport. There were no counters open, and to add to the confusion, nothing was set up to provide stranded tourist with information and updates. In short, no one knew what was going-on.

We were also lucky that at that point, the protesters haven't moved inside the airport yet as well. (although if we hadn't been scheduled to fly off on the first full day of the protest, we'll probably have seen what the protest grew into and avoided the airport altogether)

my. fucking. arse.

there wasn't even wireless internet access for us to find information online

so basically, if your stranded, all you can do is sleep, or..

walk around taking videos, or even..

walking into the main protest body itself to take a video.

So guess what, it was back to Bangkok City, and another opportunity to get raped by cabbies.

Our plan now was to take a 12 hour car journey down to Phuket the next day, and fly home from there. Would fortune really favour the brave? Or would we get screwed up our asses. Stay tuned. T_T
