'Too Bad'

Two students were killed in a train accident yesterday. Dreadful, a total waste of two young lives, but what intrigued me was the spokesman's choice of words.

'We have emergency brakes, but the train will still move 400 to 500 metres before it stops. If the train stops suddenly, the impact can cause it to derail.'

'So if you're within the braking distance, then it's too bad.'

Too bad? Like what-the-hell. Surely there are better ways of putting it. And while I'm not an engineer, 400 to 500 metres' a ridiculously long distance ain't it. Kinda defeats the purpose of 'emergency braking', cause everybody who initiates one's gonna fall into the 'too bad' category anyway.

Then again, I'm probably being random again.
